Spousal Support
Spousal support (also called alimony or spousal maintenance) may be awarded to help a spouse maintain the standard of living established during the marriage. The amount and duration of support depends on many factors.
California courts consider numerous factors when determining spousal support, including:
- Length of the marriage
- Each spouse’s earning capacity
- Standard of living during marriage
- Age and health of both parties
- Contributions to the other spouse’s education or career
- Assets and debts of each party
